A court in Chittagong issued warrant of arrests against 5 members o f a family of noted industrialist group including Managing Director of Elias Brothers and BNP Vice President Shamsul Alam S(MEB Group ) in a case of default loan of Tk.21.33 cr yesterday.
At the same time court framed charge- sheets against them . Metropolitan Session Judge SM Muzibur Rahman issued this warrant of arrest order yesterday.
The warrant issued agsnst Managing Director Shamsul Alam, his wife Kamrun Nahar, brother and chairman of MEB Group Nurul Absar and his wife Tahmina Begum , another brother Nurul Alam. Metropolitan Court PP Kamaluddin said as alleged in cheque deceiving case, the accuseds in the case remained absent on fixed date of framing charge sheet.
As such the court issued warrant of arrest against them in their absence. Court sources said MEB Group borrowed loan from Eastern Bank amounting to Tk.22.33 cr and in payment of the loan amount, MEB group submitted a cheque of NCCBank to Eastern Bank on April 3, 2012 which later dishonoured by the feeding bank on April 4, 2012.
Despite repeated reminders of paying the cheque amount including issue of legal notice, the loan did not respond as a result the Eastern Banki authority filed a money misappriation case before the court on June 5, 2012 , sources said.
