UNB, Chittagong :
A court here on Monday issued an arrest warrant against Hefajat-e Islam nayeb-e-ameer Mufti Izharul Islam in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Metropolitan Sessions judge SM Mujibur Rahman issued the order after accepting the chargesheet in the case filed for not responding to a notice of ACC for submitting his wealth statement.
ACC special public prosecutor Adv Mejbahuddin said Mufti Izhar was on High Court bail. The arrest warrant has been issued against Mufti Izhar for not appearing before the court during hearing over the chargesheet.
Earlier, on April 21, HM Aktaruzzaman, deputy-director of ACC Chittagong division, pressed
chargesheet against Mufti Izhar in the case.
HM Aktaruzzaman said the ACC served a notice to Mufti Izhar for submitting his wealth statement in July, 2013. As Izhar remained absconding he couldn’t accept the notice. Later, the notice was hanged on his residence, he said.
The ACC filed a case against Izhar for not responding to the notice in September 2013.
Mufti Izhar remained absconding following a blast in a madrasa at city’s Lalkhan Bazar in 2013 that left three people dead. Three cases were filed against him and his son in this connection.
