Bangladesh Army emerged champions in the Joyjatra Foundation 40th National Athletics competition that concluded on Saturday at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Bangladesh Army secured 19 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze medals to clinch the title while Bangladesh Navy bagged 11 gold, 11 silver and four bronze medals to finish runners-up the in the competition.
Besides, Border Guard Bangladesh finished third in the competition with two gold, two silver and six bronze medals.
Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) president ASM Ali Kabir was the chief guest o the closing day of the competition and distributed the prizes among the winners.
Joyjatra Foundation chairperson Helena Jahangir was present as special guest.
BAF general secretary Ibrahim Chengis and other federation officials were also present on the occasion.
The fastest man Mejbah Uddin and fastest woman Shirin Akter received cash prize of Taka 10,000.00 each on behalf of competition sponsor Joyjatra Foundation.
Some 600 men’s and women’s athletes from 64 districts, universities, education boards across the country along with Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan and forces took part in the 36 events – 22 of men’s and 14 of women’s – of the competition.
