Staff Reporter :The army captured a terrorist conducting a fresh operation at Dighinala in the southeastern hilly district of Khagrachhari in the early hours of Monday and also recovered huge quantity of arms, ammunition and other materials from his possession. The arrestee was identified as Nantu Chakma, 45, an alleged member of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti [PCJSS]- MN Larma group. Of the seized arms, there was one machinegun, two sub-machineguns [SMG] of different caliber, two SLR [self-loading rifle], one grenade, nine magazines, 350 rounds of bullet, seven pairs of camouflage army uniform, eight cellular phones and some battery-run torches.Getting tips from intelligence agencies, the army was informed that a gang of about 25 terrorists would pass night in three houses at the top of Sadhukchhara hill. Under direct supervision of Khagrachhari Regional Commander, a team of 28 high-skilled commandos led by Lieutenant Colonel Mohsin Reza conducted the operation divided in four separate groups simultaneously at the remote hill area of Sadhukchhara, seven kilometers northwest of Dighinala upzila, said an ISPR release.Other PCJSS operatives, however, managed to flee away during the army crackdown. Local sources said that detainee already confessed that he is an activist of PCJSS-MN Larma.Meanwhile, the insurgent operatives, both of Bnagladesh and Myanmar, have become very much active in the recent days in three hill districts posing a potential threat to the security agencies. Earlier on August 26, the joint force of Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB] flashed out the guerilla operatives of Arakan Army and forced them to cross the border by demolishing their base camps in the country’s southeastern hilly district of Bandarban.Official sources said, the guerilla operatives of Arakan Army retreated through the narrow ways in the deep forest when the joint forces launched a full-scale military operation using heavy machine guns and high explosives under the cover of combat helicopters. The joint force operation was prompted after two members of BGB were injured following an ambush attack by separatist guerillas of Myanmar’s banned outfit Arakan Army near the international border at Barha Modak area under Thanchi Upazila at around 9:30am yesterday. In this backdrop, Bangladesh and Myanmar on August 31 launched a coordinated security clampdown against rebel Arakan Army while authorities called out army troops to join hands with paramilitary border guards here after a skirmish in the rugged southeastern hills.Myanmar troops launched a simultaneous drive on the borders as Bangladesh army joined hands with the BGB against the Myanmar separatist group who appeared to be operating from the frontiers of the two countries, according to officials.
