In addition to setting up Army Aviation Forward Base in Chittagong, two state-of-the-art Bell Four Zero Seven GXI helicopters brought from the United States have been added to the Army fleet. Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed officially inaugurated the Army Aviation Forward Base at Patenga in Chittagong yesterday morning.
Although Greater Chittagong is strategically important on any issue, so far there has been no Army Aviation Base and no specialized helicopter. But the army has to do all the important work in the remote areas of the three hill districts.
The helicopter was purchased and the Forward Aviation Base was set up as part of the Forces Goals by 2030, it was mentioned at the inauguration ceremony yesterday.
Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed said the state-of-the-art Bell Four Zero Seven GNI helicopters procured from the United States would play an important role in training the two young pilots. At the same time, two helicopters will work to search and observe from the sky to the ground.
He said the helicopter would also be able to provide medical assistance, conduct missions and provide limited emergency supplies in remote areas. Apart from Chittagong, an Army Forward Base has been set up in the northern district of Lalmonirhat to assist army members in remote areas of the country. The ceremony was attended by senior army personnel and army personnel of various ranks.
