Arms trader sent to Khagrachhari jail

A court here sent an alleged arms trader to district jail on Friday morning.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Touhidul Islam, in an order, sent Abik Chakma, 29, son of Laxmiranjan Chakma of Kerangatali area under Bagaichhari Upazila in Rangamati District, to Khagrachhari District Jail and fixed June 21 next as hearing day. Meanwhile, Investigation Officer Pijus Chandra Singha sought five days’ remand.
Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Abik from Aatmile Joutha Khamar area under Sadar Upazila in the district on Wednesday afternoon with two foreign-made pistols and 18 rounds of ammunition after a half-hour long gunfight.
Later, RAB handed him over to Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station on Thursday afternoon. RAB exchanged a total of 29 rounds of bullets.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Muhammad Shamsuddin Bhuiyan said Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of (RAB)-7 Mohsin Kabir filed a case with Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station accusing Abik Chakma under section 19(a) of Arms Act-1878.
