Police released model and actor Pallab Chakraborty hours after detaining him along with 10 others from the capital’s Rampura area on Sunday on charges of possessing firearms.
After primary interrogation, Pallab and four others were freed as police did not find their involvement with carrying firearms illegally, police said.
The law enforcers picked up 11 people including Pallab from an office in Kunjaban area behind the BTV Bhaban and seized three firearms, 14 bullets and two machetes from their possessions,
said Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Motijheel zone).
Officer-in-Charge of Rampura Police Station Kripa Krishna Bala confirmed four persons release. However, the identities of the other people could not be named.
A case was filed under the Arms Act with Rampura Police Station accusing nine people.
“All of them were questioned at the police station. We later released five men, including actor Pallab, around noon as we did not find any evidence of their involvement,” OC said.
Those who have been shown arrested are ‘Fariduddin’, ‘Ismail’, Obaidur Rahman Badal, ‘Jony’, Liton Matubbar and ‘Kamal’ aka Digital Kamal.
Kripa Krishna Bala, however, did not reveal the names of three other accused. “The arms were being carried with a view to commit crimes. “We’ll seek a 10-day remand for them to find out more information,” he said.
