UNB, Dhaka :BNP on Wednesday alleged that the dumping and recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition in an Uttara canal here is part of the government’s a ‘grand plan’.Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also slammed Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner (DMP) for his comment involving BNP with the arms and ammunition, saying he talked like ruling party leaders.”It’s now getting clear to people that the arms could not reach the Turag River’s canal without law enforcers assistance. People are in strong doubt as to how a black Pajero vehicle having no number plate carried the arms in broad daylight and dumped those safely in an area that was undercover of a three-tier security blanket,” he said. The BNP leader further said, “People believe that the huge quantity of arms was thrown in the canal with an evil motive at the government’ s indulgence. The killing of suspected militants in crossfire and the recovery of arms from Uttara canal have linked to the government’s a grand plan.”  He also said the recovered arms include, 95 pistols of 7.62 bore that is mainly imported and used by police.Earlier on Saturday, huge cache of arms and ammunition, including 97 pistols, 1,060 bullets and 10 bayonets, were recovered from Diabarhi canal at Uttara Sector-16.Later speaking at a press beefing, DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Monday hinted that the BNP-Jamaat clique might be behind the dumping of the firearms.”We suspect those who killed women and children in 2015 and want to tarnish the country’s image abroad have brought in these firearms,” he said.Protesting the DMP commissioner’s comment, Rizvi said his comments are not only unexpected, but sounded like the Prime Minister’s ones as she used to blame BNP immediately after any incident that take places in the country.”The police commissioner’s comments give an impression that he is an employee of Sheikh Hasina, not the republic.
