Argentine World Cup winner Rene “Loco” Houseman died of tongue cancer at the age of 64 on Thursday.
Houseman was a tricky right winger in his day who drew comparisons to Brazilian great Garrincha. He scored 12 goals in 53 Argentina appearances and helped the side win the 1978 World Cup on home soil. “That’s life… it ends badly,” Houseman’s former coach Cesar Louis Menotti said on radio Cooperativa at the announcement of Houseman’s death.
