A turboprop airplane crashed and burned shortly after taking off from an Uruguayan resort area, killing all 10 on board, officials said Friday.
The dead from Thursday night’s crash included seven Argentine passengers, one Portuguese national and two Argentine crew members.
Officials say the Beechcraft King Air had taken off from the Laguna de Sauce airport, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) east of the capital of Montevideo. The airport serves the tourist city of Punta del Este. The plane crashed into a lagoon and
was semi-submerged. “With the help of divers, we have recovered all 10 of the bodies,” Navy spokesman Gaston Jaunsolo told The Associated Press.
Some of the bodies were recovered from inside the body of the plane and were severely burned, officials said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation. The passengers had been heading toward San Fernando, Argentina.
