The first-ever Arab Islamic-American (AIA) Summit kicked off at King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center in the Saudi capital on Sunday afternoon.
Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud inaugurated the summit.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, US President Donald Trump and 56 Arab and Muslim leaders joined this highly anticipated event, the first of its kind in history, to discuss ways to combat extremism and illicit financing under the summit slogan “Together We Prevail”.
Other leaders who attended the summit included the Emirs of Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the King of Bahrain, the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, the presidents of Egypt, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Benin, Lebanon, Mauritania, Tunisia, Palestine, Iraq, Niger, the prime minister of Pakistan, the Chairman of Algerian Parliament and the foreign minister of Uganda. After the inaugural speech of the Saudi King, US President Donald Trump delivered his speech.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will deliver her statement later on Sunday evening and is expected to put forward a number of proposals in the summit.
The main objective of the summit is to establish new partnership to face the challenges of global terrorism and militancy, expand values of tolerance and coexistence and strengthen efforts for ensuring peace and stability.
Earlier on her arrival at the venue, the Bangladesh prime minister was received by the Saudi King. At that time the two leaders exchanged greetings.
