UNB, Dhaka :
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will pass its judgment after assessing the content of the CDs containing audio and video footage of the talk show of Ekattor TV.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice SK Sinha came up with the decision on Tuesday. On Sunday, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam submitted the tape on behalf of the Ekattor TV as per an earlier Supreme Court order.
During the hearing, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam urged the
court to deliver its judgment about the contempt of court charge against Ekattor TV. The court said “We consider the organisation as big and if the organisation failed to do their activities properly then there is no rule of law. Those who do not show respect to law have no difference with criminals. The contempt of court is a crime like theft and robbery.”
On 10 August, the television channel aired a report and a talk show on the conversation between two SC judges which is sub-judice during proceedings of a contempt of court rule against Daily Janakantha editor and its publisher Atiquallah Khan Masud and executive editor Swadesh Roy.
On 11 August, the SC ordered to submit the video report to examine whether the channel committed any contempt of court by broadcasting the news and holding the talk show on a sub-judice matter.
