Candidates, whose nomination papers were cancelled by the Returning Officers, may file appeals with the EC against it by December 5.
Election Commission’s Deputy Secretary Atiar Rahman said it to the media yesterday. The appeal process will begin from today and continue till December 5.
Hearing on those appeals will be held on December 6, 7 and 8.
According o the EC sources, about 786 nomination papers had been canceled, while 2,279 were found valid.
The matter of appeal rises when nomination papers are cancelled showing reasons of disqualification. Among the top leaders whose nomination papers were rejected, are BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now in prison, and her party leader Amanullah Aman, and Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddiqui.
Election Commission has revised polls schedule, deferring the 11th general election by a week to December 30 – a decision taken in November.
As per the schedule, November 28 was the deadline to submit nomination papers, December 2 was the date for scrutiny and December 9 is the last date for withdrawal.
Throughout November, major political parties were busy selecting their chosen candidates for the 300 constituencies across Bangladesh.
