Apan Jewellers owners put on remand

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday placed three owners of Apan Jewellers on a one-day remand each in money laundering cases lodged against them.
Magistrate AKM Moinuddin Siddique of the CMM Court put Dildar Ahmed Selim on remand in a money laundering case filed with Ramna Model Police Station. Besides, Metropolitan Magistrate Sabbir Yasir Ahmed Chowdhury granted the remand for Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed in another two money laundering cases lodged with Gulshan Police Station.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) officials produced three owners of the Apan Jewellers before the court seeking three-day remand for each.
On August 12, Customs Intelligence Department officials filed five cases against three owners under the Money Laundering Prevention Act. According to the statements of the cases, the accused imported around 15 maunds of gold and diamonds “dodging tax”.
Dildar, father of Banani double rape case prime accused Shafat Ahmed, Gulzar and Azad were sent to jail after they surrendered before three Dhaka courts, seeking bail in the cases on October 24.
