UNB, Dhaka :
Muktijoddha Peshajibi Janata Oikya Mancha, a platform of the organisations believing in the spirit of liberation war, led by Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council was formed on Sunday to “raise their voice” against all kinds of violence.
The formation of the platform with Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council chairman Maj Gen (rtd) Helal Morshed Khan as its convenor has been announced through a press conference arranged by Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad at the Jatiya Press Club.
Reading out from a written statement at the press conference, the convenor of the newly formed platform said it has been formed with some 92 organisations across the country to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty from any conspiracy as well as resist terrorism, and arson attack on people and all modes of transport, and other forms of anarchy.
Asked to name the organizations, he said their names will be announced later.
Helal Morshed Khan alleged that Khaleda Zia-led 20-party alliance has begun a war like that of 1971 against the people of Bangladesh.
“In the circumstances, we, the freedom fighters, can’t sit at home leaving the matter only to the government,” he said, adding, “an irrepressible resistance will be staged along with the general people against terrorism unleashed by forces patronized by Khaleda Zia.”
A 301-member national committee has been formed to carry out the primary activities of the Muktijoddha Peshajibi Janata Oikya Mancha, the organizers said on Sunday.
They said that committees of the Mancha will be formed later at the union, upazila and district level.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, State Minister for Science and Technology architect Yafes Osman, and economist Dr Quazi Kholiquzzaman also spoke at the press conference.
