A 10-day anti-violence drama festival will begin at Shilpakala Academy in the city on Thursday. International Theater Institute (ITI), Bangladesh and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy are jointly organizing the festival with the theme ‘Drama Against Violence’.
To be held with the patronization of the ministry for cultural affairs, the ‘Second Dhaka International Theater Festival’ will be inaugurated at Nandan Mancha of Shilpakala Academy on Thursday evening.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will attend the inaugural ceremony.
This was disclosed at a press conference of ITI in the city on Tuesday.
Twenty-eight theater groups, including two from India, two from China, one
from London and 23 from Bangladesh will perform in this festival.
Dramas would be staged at 7 pm everyday from 12 March to 21 March at Shilpakala Academy National Theater Main Auditorium, Experimental Hall and Studio Theater.
ITI Global President Ramendu Majumder said 28 selected dramas would be staged in the festival.
Besides dramas, two drama dialogues and three drama workshops would be held
in the festival, he added.
ITI Bangladesh Chapter President Nasiruddin Yusuf told BSS that holding the
long drama festival amid current political unrest and insecurity is a protest
against violence.
