In the face of resistance from locals led by Advocate Rana Dasgupta, the house of Jatramohan Sengupta in Rahmatganj area, which is entangled with the memories of the anti-British movement in port city, has been saved from demolition.
A school was now running in the building with a lease from the district administration.Speaking on the court order, a man came over the premises with a bulldozer on Monday to demolish the house.
In the face of resistance, the district administration sealed off the traditional house and said that a decision on the building would be announced later.
Rana Dasgupta, the prosecutor of the war crimes tribunal, claimed that the court order was brought about this land by irregular means.He has demanded the government to preserve the house as museum of the anti-British movement.
