Safe roads movement: Another woman held for spreading rumour on FB

An young woman was picked up by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) men from the city’s Dhanmondi area on Thursday night on charge of spreading rumour on Facebook during students’ road safety movement.
The arrested woman has been identified as Faria Mahzabin, 28, wife of Mohammad Riasat. She is owner of a coffee house in Dhanmondi.
RAB Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said, on information, a team of RAB-2 raided a house in West Dhanmondi and arrested the woman for instigating people through uploading audio clips, posting provocative status and false photo in the social media during the student movement. RAB personnel also seized Faria’s mobile phone. Upon primary interrogation, she confessed to posting fabricated statuses and audio clips on Facebook to divert the students’ movement and deteriorate law and order in the country, he said.
Meanwhile, Mahzabin was placed on a three-day remand on Friday in a case filed over the incident.
Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Mainuddin Siddiqui passed the order after Sub-Inspector Majedul Islam of Hazaribagh police station, also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced her before court seeking a seven-day remand.
Earlier, eight people were detained from different parts of Dhaka city on the first week this month for spreading rumours on social media regarding the student movement.
