Joly Akhter, 28 and her two-year-old son Alif on Sunday lost their battle for life with fatal burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday. Earlier, they were admitted to the burn unit of the DMCH with serious injuries from gas cylinder blast in city’s Kamrangirchar on Saturday morning.
With their death the number of deaths in the same family from the gas cylinder blast accident rose to three as Aklima Begum, mother of Joly Akhtar, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday while undergoing treatment also at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
She suffered 65% burn injuries.
Joly’s husband Ramjan Ali talking to the media said the gas cylinder might have exploded due to leakage in the gas pipe connecting the cylinder and the burner. Ramjan who is a mechanic said he was not at home at the time of the accident. The gas cylinder was bought for cooking as gas pressure in the area remains usually very low, he said.
Sheikh Mohosin Alam, officer-in-charge of Kamrangirchar police station said that they were informed of the accident by the local people.
DMCH handed over the bodies of the victims to Ramzan Ali on Sunday after autopsy.
