Highway death trap: Another 10 killed

At least ten people were killed and several others injured in separate road crashes in the country on Sunday night and Monday.
In Dhaka, two persons, including a Pathao rider, were killed and several others injured in separate road crashes in Motijheel area on Sunday night.
Pathao rider Ripon Sikdar, 31, and his passenger Alam Gazi, 30, were killed as a lorry ran over their motorcycle in Dhaka’s Motijheel area at about 10:15 pm, police said.
Omor Faruk, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motijheel Police Station confirmed the news of accident to the Media.
On the other hand, three persons were killed in a road accident at Baliarpur in Savar on Monday. The deceased were identified as engineer Md Jahirul Islam, 50, Executive Director of ‘Mir Akhtar Hossain Limited,’ Dhaka WASA’s surveyor Nurunnabi, 38, and a car driver Khalil, 48.
Azgar Ali, Sub-Inspector of Savar Model Police Station told the media that a speeding pick-up van rammed a stationed vehicle on Dhaka-Aricha highway around 4:pm, leaving three killed on the spot. The bodies were taken to Savar Upazila Health Complex while the injured were admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (SSMCH) in Dhaka.
In Noakhali, three people, including a woman and her son, were killed following a head-on collision between a CNG run auto-rickshaw and a pick-van on Noakhali-Feni Road in Senbagh upazila on yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Abu Taher, 35, Feroza Begum, 60, and her son Mohon, 35.
Highway police inspector (investigation) Shahjahan Khan confirmed the matter to media.
In Lalmonirhat, two persons were killed in a collision between trucks and auto-rickshaw in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district. Five more passengers of an auto-rickshaw were injured. The accident took place near the Aditamari power Sub-Station of Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Alamgir Hossain, 18, son of Shafiqul Islam, of Duhuli of Kaliganj upazila, autorickshaw driver Abdul Khalek, 35, son of Rahmat Ali of Tappa Palashi village. Masud Rana of Aditmari Police Station confirmed the news to media.
