UNB, Dhaka :
Announcing a number of places free of illegal parking, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq on Thursday sought people’s cooperation in building Dhaka city as a clean, green and safe one free from traffic jam.
“General people are the main source of power for doing anything. If they don’t cooperate with us, it won’t be possible for me to build a beautiful city,” he said. The DNCC mayor was addressing a function at Tejgaon truck stand to announce Tejgaon industrial area, Tejgaon truck stand and Mohakhali bus stand free from illegal parking.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal attended the programme as
the chief guest while former Commerce Minister Faruk Khan, DNCC chief executive officer Enamul Hoque, convener of Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van and Transport Agency Owners’ and Workers’ Oikya Parishad Rostom Ali Khan and general secretary of Bangladesh Transport Owners’ Association Khandker Anayet, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Noting that a mayor works as an administrative leader bringing all together, Annisul Huq said, “You wouldn’t have seen this wide road which had been occupied for illegal parking or other establishments, had we not worked together. My efforts will be to work together.”
He promised to build a modern truck stand in the city though it will take time. “Until then, the truck workers can keep their vehicles on the railway’s own land,” he added.
In his speech, the Home Minister emphasised turning Mohakhali bus stand into a two-storey one to reduce traffic flows on the VIP roads. He also urged the DNCC mayor to build a new modern truck terminal as the transport owners and workers have long been demanding so.
