Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Thursday called for setting up a “Dedicated Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development and Research Centre” to further develop small and medium industries in the D-8 member countries.
“D-8 member countries can ensure their socio-economic development through SME,” he said while speaking at the ministerial plenary session at the “6th Ministerial Meeting on D-8 Industrial Cooperation” at Abuja in Nigeria, said a press release here.
The industries minister suggested the D-8 member countries to ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as early as possible to enhance the bilateral relations for developing SME sector.
Amu said the D-8, an economic alliance of Muslim countries, can play a vital role to expedite world trade.
He also suggested the D-8 member countries to take up joint investment projects in the automobile, shipbuilding, apparel, petrochemical, software and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors.
Among others, Nigerian Industries and Commerce Minister Dr Okechukwu Enelamah, Egypt Industries and Commerce Minister Engineer Tarek Qabil and Iran Industries and Mineral Resource Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh were present at the session.
