The first phase of 40-day employment programme of the government began in the five Upazilas of the district on December 18 for hard-core poor, seasonal unemployed and destitute people.
Official sources said the aim of the programme is to assist the day and farm laborers overcoming their poverty and job crisis during the lean period.
District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Younus Ali said the government under the project has sanctioned Taka over 3.68 crore for 4,607 workers to implement different infrastructural development schemes in the district.
Each of the workers would get Taka 200 per day as wage from the programme, the officer added.
The project includes construction and reconstruction of earthen roads, bridges, culverts, educational and religious institutions.
