BSS, Dhaka :
Chief Information Commissioner Mohammad Faruque on Thursday said it is being examined whether there is any need to amend ‘Right to Information Act 2009’. “We received some verbal recommendations for amending section 7 of Right to Information Act 2009. We are examining whether there is any actually need for the amendment,” he told BSS in reply to a question.
The Right to Information Act is the only law to ensure accountability of government and non-government authorities to the people, he said, adding that the law has been formulated after long discussions and reviews for more than two decades. “Therefore, this law should not be amended all of a sudden,” he observed.
The chief information commissioner said the NGOs have been asked to assess the need for amending the Right to Information Act 2009. Accordingly, workshops are being held in divisional cities to this end, he added.
