The ‘Shaheed Dibash’ and the International Mother Language Day-2021 was observed in Bagerhat district town and it’s all the nine Upazilas paying rich tributes to the Language Movement martyrs on Sunday.
Bagerhat district administration earlier chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the Day in a befitting manner. Different political-socio-cultural organizations, including the ruling Awami League, took earlier various programmes such as seminar cultural functions, Milad Mahfil to observe the Amar (immortal) Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner.
Under management of the district administration, the observance began at one minute past after midnight with placing wreaths on the altar of the local central Shahhed Minar (situated in front of Bagerhat High School) maintaining health guidelines.
A N M Faizul Haq, DC, Bagerhat and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat ceremonially on behalf of Bagerhat district administration and Bagerhat district Police administration respectively placed wreaths central at the Shahhed Minar paying homage to the Language Movement Martyrs.
The different political-socio-cultural organizations and different educational institutions like district Awami League and its front organizations, Bagerhat Pourashava, Bagerhat Bar Association, Bagerhat Press Club, also placed floral wreaths on the Shaheed Minar.
It was followed with discussion meetings, painting and hand writing competitions of the children, cultural function and special prayers (offered in the mosques, temples and churches) for the salvation of the departed souls of those who sacrificed their lives on this day for the cause of mother language-Bangla.
A week-long book fair was inaugurated by DC A N M Faizul Haq in Saltala Zila Parishad auditorium in the afternoon marking the ‘Shaheed Dibash’ and the International Mother Language Day-2021.
