Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day was observed in Chapainawabganj in a befitting manner to pay rich tribute to the language martyrs on Sunday.
The day was observed through various programmes chalked out by different government and non-government offices, social, political and cultural organizations and educational institutions.
The day’s programmes began with placing floral wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar at Chapainawabganj Municipality office premises.
The programmes included hoisting of National flag at half-mast atop all public and private buildings, probhat ferry, discussion meeting and cultural show.
BSS from Narayanganj says: People from all walks of life of the port city thronged Shaheed Minar on Sunday marking the observance of shaheed dibosh and International Mother Language day to pay their respect to the language martyrs who sacrificed their lives to uphold mother tongue on February 21, 1952.
Narayangaj District administration in co-operation with sociocultural organizations like Narayangaj District Shilpakala Academy, Narayangaj Fine Arts Institute, professional bodies, political parties and educational institutions chalked out different programmes in observance of the day.
The programmes included hoisting of National flag at half-mast atop all public and private buildings, probhat ferry, placing of wreaths at shaheed minar at chasara, discussion meeting and cultural show.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The people of Rangpur observed the Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day-2016 on Sunday befittingly by paying due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs and with a fresh call for using Bengali at all spheres.
The district and upazila administrations, City Corporation, socio-cultural and professional organisations, political parties, students’ organisations, private bodies and educational institutions chalked out elaborate day-long programmes marking the day. The observance began at the zero hours through placing wreaths by former President, Jatiya Party Chairman and Prime Minister’s Special Envoy Alhaj Hussein Muhammad Ershad at Central Shaheed Minar in the city.
