AL’s Younus Ali wins Gaibandha-3 polls

Awami League candidate Younus Ali Sarker won the parliamentary election from Gaibandha-3 Constituency unofficially yesterday.
Younus Ali Sarker got 1,21,163 votes while his nearest contestant Jatiya Party leader Dilara Khandker Shilpi bagged 24,385 votes in the election.
The voting to the constituency (Palashbari-Sadullapur) started at 8:00pm and continued till
4:00pm amid tight security.
Younus Ali Sarker of Awami League, Dilara Khandker Shilpi of Jatiya Party (JP-Ershad), Khademul Islam Khudi of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Mizanur Rahman Titu of National People’s Party (NPP) and independent candidate Abu Zafar Md Zahid contested the polls.
Voters cast their votes at different polling centres in peaceful manner although the BNP candidate boycotted the polls.
Voting to this constituency was suspended due to the death of BNP-led 20-party alliance candidate TIM Fazley Rabbi Chowdhury on December 20, only 10 days before the 11th parliamentary election.
The Election Commission on December 23 declared the fresh schedule for the election.
On January 10, the last date of withdrawing candidacy, BNP aspirant Moinul Hasan Sadik, Socialist Party of Bangladesh candidate Shafiqul Islam and Islami Andolan’s Hanif Dewan withdrew their candidature.
There are 4,11,854 voters in the constituency.
