AL’s armed attacks on opponents at peak: BNP

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday alleged that the ruling Awami League has continued its armed attacks on opposition candidates and their supporters with an evil motive to snatch mayoral posts during the December-30 municipal election.
In a statement, he also said, “Awami League’s terrorist activities now reached the peak over the countrywide municipal elections.” The statement was issued protesting the killing of Khagrachhari’s Matiranga upazila Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal senior vice president Nazrul Islam and attack on Dinajpur’s Birampur municipality BNP mayoral candidate and existing mayor Azadul Islam.
Fakhrul alleged that Nazrul was hacked to death by the ruling party men on Tuesday eveningm, while returning home after electioneering in favour of BNP candidate. “Azdul Islam was also stabbed by Awami terrorists yesterday (Tuesday) night, leaving him critically injured.”
He said, Awami League’s vindictive attitude has clearly been exposed before the nation through these attacks.
“These incidents have also demonstrated the brazen Awami terrorism. We’ve no suitable word to condemn such heinous and barbaric attacks,” the BNP leader added.
Fakhrul demanded the government arrest those involved in the attacks and mete out exemplary punishment against them.
