Allen’s 97 helps NZ seal lone win against Ireland

Finn Allen scored 97 to help New Zealand seal a consolation 4-wicket win against Ireland in their 3rd and last Group-D match of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium on Monday.
But both New Zealand and Ireland failed to reach the super league stage of the 11th edition of the Youth ODI tournament.
For deciding the 9th place, New Zealand will confront Scotland in a play-off match at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in Cox’s Bazar on Friday.
Ireland will take on South Africa in another play-off match at the same venue on Thursday.
Replying to 212 runs in the day’s fog-curtailed 48-over match, New Zealand reached their target of 213 for 6 in 40 overs spurred by the 5th pair for 141 runs in 20.4 overs between Allen and Dale Phillips.
Allen, who was adjudged man of the match, struck nine boundaries and four sixes before he was bowled out by Fiachra Tucker at 206/6 in 38 overs.
Phillips was trapped lbw by F Tucker scoring 58 off 66 balls including seven boundaries.
Glenn Phillips (34 off 35b; 6×4, 1×6) was another double figure scorer for the side.
Rory Anders captured four wickets for economic 32 in 10 overs while Tucker took two wickets for 26 runs.
Sent in to bat first, Ireland collected 212 runs for all in 48 overs with skipper-cum-opener Jack Tector topscoring with 56 off 83 balls including six boundaries and one six.
Tector was caught by Nathan Smith off Rachin Ravindra at 3-128/3 in 28.5 overs.
Adam Dennison was another notable scorer for his 46 off 56 balls with seven boundaries for the side.
Josh Finnie and Rachin Ravindra captured three wickets for 30 and 36 runs in seven and 10 overs.
