UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Thursday alleged that allegation of war crimes brought against its leader and former minister Dr Osman Faruk are only to gag his voice so that he can’t talk in favour of BNP at home and abroad.
“Absurd allegation of crimes against humanity was brought against a member of BNP chairperson’s advisory council Dr Osman Faruk at the behest
of the government,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, the BNP leader further said, “He (Osman) is an academician, teacher and economist. Why did the government decide to probe against him over allegations of crimes against humanity? The motive is to stop his voice in favour of BNP at home and abroad.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khan, chief coordinator of the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), said they have decided to launch a probe into the war crimes charges against Osman Faruk. The ICT investigation agency is gathering information about the BNP leader’s involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, said Sanaul Haque, senior coordinator of the agency while addressing a press briefing at its office in the city’s Dhanmondi area.
