Staff Reporter :
The Army on Thursday slammed an allegation made by the family of slain college girl Tonu of Comilla to different media that her father survived an attempt on his life, as someone tried to run him over with a bus or motorbike.
“Tonu’s father Yar Hossain is a working member (employee) of Comilla Cantonment Board. He is getting the security as others get inside the Cantonment. It is entirely a speculative matter that attempts were made to kill him with a bus or motorbike,” an ISPR statement said referring to the allegation. It added that Yar Hossain did not make any complaint till now with the army authorities or the investigators of his daughter’s murder. Moreover, it said, he had also failed to provide any ‘reliable information’ regarding the allegation to the Cantonment Executive Officer, who is a civil service officer posted in his current position on deputation.
The ISPR, however, alleged that “baseless and incoherent allegations” made by Tonu’s family at different times on various issues were “creating scopes to affect the image of the army”.
“Tonu’s family like all other army families is still living inside the Cantonment and the military authorities are pledge-bound to provide all kinds of cooperation for proper investigations into the Tanu murder,” the statement said. It said patriotic Bangladesh Army like all others also wants the real killers to be tracked down and arrested quickly for trial.”
