Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq here on Thursday said country’s all the freedom fighters will get equal monthly allowance irrespective of their ages.
He came up with the announcement while talking to reporters after inaugurating the expansion work of Gazipur Circuit House at noon.
If each freedom fighter is given Tk 10,000 as allowance per month, the government will be able to pay them for 10 months as per the budget allocation, the minister said, adding the decision about the amount of the monthly allowance will be taken after discussion. The government has proposed Tk 10,000 as monthly allowance for the freedom fighters aged above 65, which is double of the current amount, in the budget for the 2015-16 fiscal.
Md Zahid Ahsan Russel MP and outgoing deputy commissioner of Gazipur Mohammad Nurul Islam were, among others, present on the occasion.
