Bangladesh Nationalist Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said AL will not get more than 30 seats in the next general election if it is held under a neutral administration.
He came up with this remark while addressing a discussion at the Dhakeshwari Temple in the city yesterday. Marking BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s 36th death anniversary Bangladesh Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Kalyan Front organised the programme.
“People are eagerly waiting for a neutral election to give a befitting reply to the boastfulness and misrule of the government.”
He said AL has lost earth beneath its feet as it’s got totally isolated from people.
“The party knows it very well that it won’t be able to get more than 30 seats in the election if it is held under a non-party or supportive government,” he said.
Referring to Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that their party will get a hat-trick victory in the next polls, Fakhrul said, “It’s nothing, but political rhetoric. They won’t be able to fool people by rhetoric.”
He urged the government to arrange the election under a non-party government to ensure the participation of all parties in it. “If the election is held under an impartial administration, the
ruling party will be able to know its actual position among people.”
Fakhrul said their party founder Ziaur Rahman was a non-communal person who believed in the rights of people to practise their respective religions freely. “BNP has also been following Ziaur Rahman’s ideology.”
He said BNP does not believe in communalism. “We’re committed to rooting out it from the country.”
The BNP leader said the people of no religion and their assets are safe now in the country as the government has annihilated the rule of law, democracy and people’s all rights. He called upon all to get united to restore people’s rights democracy.
