The ruling Awami League wants to give a befitting reply to conspiracies of BNP-Jamaat combine and their international mentors by assembling a sea of people at the mass reception to be accorded to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (Saturday).
For the purpose, the party in power has given a fervent appeal to all sections of people , irrespective of party affiliation, to stand with national flags on both sides of the street between Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and Ganobhaban at 12 noon to felicitate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier, at a joint meeting of its secretariat, the Awami League took a resolution to accord a mass reception to its president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she had been decorated with the United Nations two prestigious awards-“Champions of the Earth” and the “ICT Sustainable Development Award”.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1-30 pm today after attending the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Over the past few days, central leaders of Awami League had a series of meetings with the leaders of the central 14-party alliance, Dhaka City Awami League, Peshajibi Samannoya Parishad, engineers, doctors, agriculturists, diploma engineers, lawyers, journalists, teachers, sportsmen, cultural workers, Sammillito Sangskritik Jote, Bangladesh Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad, Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad, women’s bodies and Muktijoddha Sangsad and leaders of party’s district units around Dhaka for making the mass reception a grand success.
Awami League presidium member, spokesman of the 14-party alliance and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim while speaking at a press conference emerging from a joint meeting at the political office of party president Sheikh Hasina on Friday urged people of all shades of opinion to attend the reception for the Prime Minister.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s achievements are meant for the whole nation as she has brought laurels for the country and its people. It’s not an achievement of a particular party. So, I call upon all to attend the reception rising above party politics,” he added.
A committee has been formed with acting general secretary of Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif as its coordinator to oversee that there is no indiscipline and people’s sufferings on the streets during the period of the reception ceremony.
At the preparatory meetings, leaders and workers of Awami League, its associate bodies and other organisations have been requested to carry national and party flags, banners, festoons and placards, not any photograph or portrait of any person other than Sheikh Hasina. It has also been asked to the people to shower petals of flowers from both sides of the streets.
Talking to BSS, acting general secretary of Awami League and coordinator of the reception ceremony Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said all preparations have been completed by this time to accord a huge mass reception to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her arrival in Dhaka.
