Awami League’s rebel candidate Farukul Haque has won the mayoral election in Sylhet’s Beanibazar municipality. He won the election by getting 3,058 votes with the spoon symbol in all the 10 centers of the municipality. His nearest rival Abdus Shukur of Awami League got 2,046 votes.
EVM voting was held in all the centers of the municipality from 8 am to 4 pm on Wednesday. Voters exercised their voting right, ignoring the rain. Beanibazar voters cast their votes in EVM for the first time. So there is a lot of curiosity among the voters about the vote.
According to unofficial results, independent candidates Tafazzul Hossain (Jug) received 1,347 votes, Abdus Chhabur (Mobile) 1,293 votes, Abdus Samad Azad (Hanger) 634 votes and Ahbab Hossain Saju (Computer) 609 votes. , Abdul Quddus Titu (helmet) 632 votes, Md. Aji Uddin (Coconut) 18 votes, said the National Party. Sunam Uddin (Langal) got 95 votes and Abul Kashem (Kaste) of Communist Party got 8 votes.
The total number of voters in 10 polling stations was 26,793.
In the election, 10 candidates contested for the post of mayor, 48 for the post of general councilor and 10 for the post of reserved councilor.
