AL men snatch tender papers at gunpoint

The ruling party men snatched away tender documents from the contractors at gunpoint in Jessore district town on Wednesday, contractors alleged.
Applications were invited from listed contractors to construct the Technical Training Centre at Keshabpur with a minimum cost of Tk 5.45 crore.
The boxes were kept for receiving schedules on the last day yesterday.
Some local contractors dropped their tender papers into the boxes setup in front of the offices of Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and Public Works Department in the district.
According to sources, when other listed contractors came to the boxes to drop their applications they were barred by the ruling party men at gun point.  
The contractors alleged that earlier they also issued death threat for not submitting the applications.
The armed goon also tore most of applications after breaking the boxes. However, they failed to take way other eight applications from the boxes.
 “On Wednesday when we came to the Public Works Department office, a gang of ruling party men equipped with firearms snatched away our applications. And they also asked us not to do the same mistake again if we want to stay alive,” a contractor preferring not to be named said.
Apart from these, the contractors were also forced to give undertaking that they withdrew their applications willingly.
The contractors alleged that it was not possible for the armed goon to do such crimes if administration did not cooperate with them.
Being informed Mazedur Rahman, acting deputy commissioner of the district requested the contractors to drop their applications into the box setup in front of his office.
