City Desk :
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday urged the party leaders and workers to get prepared to resist all the plots being hatched against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“My leader (Sheikh Hasina) has been given death threat. Will we sit idle at home?” he questioned while speaking at a meeting at the AL’s Bangabandhu avenue central office in the city.
The ruling Awami League arranged the discussion marking the historic Six-Point Day.
AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting joining virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban, reports BSS.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said: “Let’s make the hands of the worthy daughter of Bangabandhu (Sheikh Hasina) stronger aiming to fulfill his dream. Let’s shatter the altar of conspiracy hatched against the country”.
Asking the AL men to be imbued with the spirit of the Six-Point and the Liberation War, he said the country’s people have full confidence in the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
“We all should get ready. We do not leave the streets. We called a programme across the country on June 4 last, protesting the indecent remarks made against our party chief…this demonstration was staged up to the union parishad level,” the AL general secretary said.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has turned the least developed Bangladesh into a developing country but she is now receiving death threat.
Mentioning that the BNP leaders are constantly making indecent remarks against the prime minister, Quader said he asked BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to stop those and not to play with fire.
“Will you threaten to kill Sheikh Hasina and we will sit idle at home? Fakhrul has asked me to speak in the language of patience. I am not impatience,” he said.
About the Padma Bridge, the road transport and bridges minister said the World Bank withdrew funding from the bridge project on corruption allegations but it was proved in a Canadian court that the Bangalees were not thieves.
“We are a nation of heroes. This Padma Bridge is a symbol of Sheikh Hasina’s unique courage,” he added.
AL publicity and publication secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap moderated the discussion from Ganabhaban end.
