The groups were fighting over the control of a piece of government land, said Noldanga Police Station OC Mostofa Kamal on Saturday. Supporters of Khajura Union Awami League President Khalilur Rahman Mridha and
General Secretary Sohrab Hossain locked in clashes on Saturday as both the leaders claimed the control of the land and tried to grab it. The wounded have been admitted to Natore Sadar Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment. There had been long-standing animosity between Khalilur and Sohrab over the 11-acre plot located at the Upazila’s Haltibil area, said OC Mostofa. Sohrab’s supporters moved to take control of the plot around 11am on Saturday, he said.
“The clash started when Khalilur’s supporters tried to resist them,” said the OC. “A total of eight people were injured in the clash. The injured were sent for treatment to Natore Sadar Hospital where Sohrab supporter Abdus Samad Mollah died,” he added. Police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.
