AL leader’s minor son shot dead for refusing to pay toll

A 10-year old boy was killed and his father injured after being shot by some miscreants as the victims’ family refused to pay Tk 5 lakh as extortion demanded from them at Miar Bazar in Hatiya municipality of Noakhali district on Sunday night.
Son of local Awami League (AL) leader Miraj Uddin, 32, the boy, Nirab, was a fifth grader at Rahmania Fazil Madrasha in locality.
Four other persons, including Miraj Uddin and his brother Rashedul Islam Nantu, were also hacked during the attack, reports our local correspondent quoting the police.
Miraj and Nirab were shot when a local criminal named Md Zinnur fired shots at them around 9:30pm on Sunday. Zinnur is said to have fired shots indiscriminately during the attack, Hatia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamruzzaman Sikder.
Nirab was first taken to Hatiya Upazila Health Complex, and later to Noakhali General Hospital where he was declared dead around midnight, the police official said.
He said Zinnur is a local criminal and had previous enmity with Miraz.
Meanwhile, filing of a case regarding the incident to the police station was underway as the funeral of the deceased completed on Monday evening, the OC added.
