An organising secretary of the ruling Awami League has said conspiracies are there against Sheikh Hasina ‘within the party’.
Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nawfel made the claim at a party
meeting at the Bangabandhu Avenue office in Dhaka on Tuesday.
“Plots are not only being hatched internationally but there are conspiracies within the party against Sheikh Hasina,” he said, referring to the 2007-08 state of emergency.
“The true colours of conspirators emerge at the time of crisis of the state. We witnessed that during 1/11 events,” he continued.
Nawfel is the son of former Chittagong city mayor ABM Mohiuddin Ahmed Chowdhury. He is currently in charge of Dhaka Division as organising secretary.
When the military-led government took over in (Jan 11) 2007, a group of leaders from the party demanded ‘reforms’ in the party. Their main objective was to throw Hasina out of politics.
The Awami League president herself later opened up about those conspiracies a number of times. She took those reformists back in the party but said she did not forget it.
The AL leaders have been talking about national and international conspiracies against Prime Minister Hasina for quite some time.
The organising secretary’s admission of conspiracy within the party came when the media is abuzz with the story of a failed assassination attempt on Hasina by a few of her bodyguards. The Prime Minister’s Office, however, has refuted it as ‘baseless’.
The meeting at the Bangabandhu Avenue party office was arranged as part of the preparation to celebrate Hasina’s birthday. Nawfel said the dedicated leaders and workers of the party would foil all conspiracies against the party and the party chief – as they did in the past.
