AL leader arrested on murder charge

A leader of the ruling party was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department of the police on Friday night in connection with the murder of an innocent man during union council election under Sadar upazila held on March 31.
The arrested is Imam Hossain Lal, joint general secretary, Jessore town unit Awami League.
Abdus Sattar Bishey, 75, hawker of Kholadanga village under Jessore sadar upazila died on the spot during clashes between two member candidates – Awami League supported Selim Ahmed Shanti, rebel (AL) member aspirant Billal Hossain at Bhaturia Government Primary School centre under Chansra union council.
Faruk Hossain, son of the dead filed a case after the incident. The AL leader is the main accused in the case.
Ilias Hossain, officer in-charge, confirmed the information of arrest of the AL leader.
The ruling party leader was arrested from Bhola Tank Road area in Jessore town at around 9pm on Friday, police said.
The Awami League, in a press conference, held at Jessore Press Club on Saturday claimed that the arrested is an innocent leader.
