Al Imam was that person who gave direction on stage and was also regular in acting in both theatre and play before and after independence of Bangladesh. Khan Zainul, Altaf Hossain started their acting careers by him. Under his assistance Shabnam, Sujata, Rahima Khala, Rani Sarkar, Ilias Kanchan had attached with acting.
Once due to old age complication he detached with giving direction and acting. He had to pass his days in hand-to-mouth at own residence at Bamoil, Konapara in the city’s Demra area to maintain family including wife Shahida Imam Riti and seven sons and daughters. He was later totally out of media. As a result, his family members failed to inform media about the death news of Al Imam who died on September 27, 2015 without any treatment.
After contacting this correspondent Al Imam’s daughter Fahmida Nasrin Labonno confirmed the news recently.
In the meantime she told this correspondent, “When father was alive he got annually Tk 19,200 as destitute artist with the initiative taken by Hasan Imam uncle. Now he is not alive. We do not know will it continue now? If stops, it will be difficult for us to survive.”
Labonno also informed, “My mother is very sick, elder brother Polash is paralyzed. The house which was built by her father is now vulnerable. Anytime it will collapse. For this reason, we seek the Prime Minister’s financial assistance.”
While talking about Al Imam legendary actress Shabnam said, “When I was 14/15 years old, I did not come into acting. Al Imam Bhai gave me scope to work in two plays during that time. In fact, I first learn how to acting from him.”
