Awami League yesterday arranged special prayers at mosques, temples, pagodas and churches across the country for long life and good health of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
As part of the nationwide programme, a special Doa Mahfil was held
at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Jumma prayers. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahman, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Central Working Committee member SM Kamal Hossain, Dhaka City North Awami League General Secretary Sadeq Khan, Dhaka City South Awami League General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad and Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saifur Rahman Sohag joined the doa mahfil, among others.
Earlier, a special prayer and discussion was held at Dhakeshwari National Temple at 12 noon wishing long life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Ramesh Chandra Sen, State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikdar, AL Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Swechchhasebak League General Secretary Pankaj Debnath and Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Committee President Jayanta Sen, among others, joined the prayers.
Dhaka Mahanagar Puja Udjapan Committee President DN Chattarjee chaired it. Besides, special prayers were held at International Buddhist Monastery at Merul Badda at 10.30am and Bangladesh Baptist Church at Mirpur Senpara at 9am.
Special prayers were also held at all mosques, temples, churches and pagodas at divisional, district, upazila and union levels including in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dinajpur, Faridpur, Comilla, Jessore, Kushtia, Sirajganj, Noakhali, Jamalpur, Pabna, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, Bogra, Sherpur, Netrokona and Lalmonirhat.
On Sunday, an international flight carrying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Hungary made an emergency landing in Turkmenistan after technical problems. The Boeing-777 flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying Sheikh Hasina landed in the Hungarian capital of Budapest after four-hour delay at Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan, where the flight was forced to make an emergency landing.
