Awami League grassroots leaders who hold the posts of president and, general secretary at union-level in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district to want upazila council before a new upazila committee formation and also to prevent a pocket committee in the upcoming grassroots committee formation.
One of the grassroots leaders and General Secretary of AL Gouripur union (No-2) Unit, Rukonuzzaman Pollab addressesed a press conference organised by 10 unions’ AL presidents and general secretaries unity at the Conference Room at Gouripur Press Club on Friday afternoon.
Briefing newsmen afterwards, the AL grassroots leaders said, “They urged party top brass to resolve all conflicts between grassroots leaders and upazila level leaders before new upazila AL committee. However, some district-level party leaders are trying to make a pocket committee without a council. As a result there would be existence of widespread intra-party factionalism among leaders”
Speakers at a discussion here stressed the need for effective resistance against a pocket committee without a council. The discussion was addressed among others by Sahanati Union AL President Ruhi Das Acharya ; Musharaf Hossain, General Secretary of AL Sahanati union unit , Bokainagar Union AL president Muslem Uddin; General Secretary Abdul Halim, Dowhakhala Union AL President Kajim Uddin; General Secretary and Dowhakhala UP Chairman Shahidul Haque Sarkar, Ramgopalpur AL president Jahirul Islam, Rukonuzzaman Pollab general secretary of AL Gouripur 2 No Union Unit, Maoha Union AL President Nur Mohammad Kalon, Achintapur Union AL president Abdur Razzak; General Secretary and Achintapur UP chairman Shahidul Islam Anthar .
