The speakers at a seminar titled ‘Problems and Prospects of Chittagong’ opined for continuing development works in Chittagong consensually irrespective party affiliations for greater national interests.
The view was expressed by the ministers of ruling party and the former Minister of BNP regime and Vice Chairman of BNP Abdullah- al- Noman in the seminar held recently at a city community hall arranged by the Chittagong Press Club.
Presided over by CPC President Kalim Sarwar it was addressed among others by Housing and Public Works Minister Engr. Mosharraf Hossain, Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury MP, City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, CDA Chairman Abdus Salam, former Minister Abdullah al Noman, FBCCI Vice President Mahbubul Alam, Police Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandol s.
Minister Engr. Mosharaf Hossain said the face of Chittagong will radically change if the proposed projects undertaken from Mirsarai to Teknaf are implemented where atleast one lakh crores of taka will be invested with scope for employing atleast millions of manpower .
He said Matarbari power plant will generate 10,000 MW power by 2021 which will fufill the total demand of the region.
Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc said in last 35 years, no new govt offices are established in the proposed commercial capital rather relocating the existing head offices of private and public sector in capital city.
Vice Chairman of BNP Abdullah- al- Noman told that more or less every govt has contributed for development of the nation and these should be evaluated and to work consensusly for future development of the country as well as Chittagong. He also emphasized the need for City govt concept which may resolve the urban crisis.
State Minister of Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury emphasized the need of all modes of communications in home and abroad with the port city for quick development of Chittagong. City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin emphasized for taking initiatives for development of Chittagong first for desired goal . He said in early , no govt has taken any specific development plan for the port city and we should work jointly irrespective of opinion for our desired achievement.
