AL, BNP preparing for next polls

Centre annoyed with internal conflict over nomination

Top leaders of the ruling Awami League and the BNP are now passing their busy time on taking preparation for the next parliamentary elections.
However, the two major political parties are reportedly facing huge internal conflicts as the nomination seekers are trying to show their muscles and influence inside the party,
 as the Election Commission has declared roadmap of the next general polls.
 “The Election Commission is preparing to hold next parliamentary polls. The election must to be held within 90 days before ending the tenure,” Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda told journalists after an EC meeting on Tuesday.
Insiders from both the parties said the high-commands are annoyed with the locals’ internal conflicts in recent times.
Meanwhile, AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the central leaders to control conflicts among nomination seekers and their supporters in different areas across the country.
When contacted, AL presidium member Colonel (rtd) Faruk Khan told The New Nation yesterday, “As a democratic party we are used to take preparations for next polls after every general election. Our party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also directed our leaders and activists to go to people and take preparations for next polls which may be held by the December next year according to EC’s roadmap.”
When asked about the nomination aspirants and their supporters’ infighting in different districts, Faruk Khan said, “There are huge eligible leaders in our party in every constituencies. So, it is very natural to leaders remain in competition over the issue. Our leader Sheikh Hasina directed all the aspirants to solve their inter conflicts through discussion.”
The AL senior leaders also said there is no chance to get party nomination after showing muscle power. They said the party has its own system to give nomination.
 “The party is not taking the next election so easy like the past polls in January 5 in 2014. The next polls may be more competitive. So our high-ups are taking preparation by preparing lists of popular leaders from every constituency,” said one senior leader on condition of anonymity.
While Faruk Khan said that the names of the eligible nominees will come from grassroots level. The local leaders will send three names as nomination aspirants.
 “We have a parliamentary board to choose the perfect candidates. We also have some concern bodies to judge the popular leaders who may win the election race,” Faruk Khan said.
On the other hand, the BNP has also taken its own strategy for the next parliamentary polls. The party has not shown any interest on EC’s election roadmap. But the party insiders said that it is also taking strong preparation for up coming polls. The BNP probable candidates for the next general elections are also taking various measures to attain party nomination. The party is now forming different district committees aiming to make the party strong for next election. Influential leaders are also involved in infighting ahead of party’s preparation for preparing lists of eligible candidates.
In recent days, the BNP men found involved in infighting in Chittagong, Jenaidah and other districts.
When contacted, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas told The New Nation yesterday that, “We demanded a totally neutral and inclusive election. As a political party the BNP always ready to take part in any election. We have lots of appropriate candidates in every area to win the election race.”
Mirza Abbas said, “It is not unusual to have internal competition among party leaders as the BNP is a democratic party. When the election schedule will be announced, the leaders must get out from all conflicts as per the directives of our Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.”
The party insiders said the senior leaders have already visited different districts across the country under 60 teams aiming to search the proper candidates for the next polls. They are also judging the real organisational condition of the party. The teams have ended their organizational tours by the first half of May. The leaders have submitted their reports to the party chairperson. The chairperson is reported discussing the recommendations in different meetings with the senior leaders.
