Activists of Awami League (AL) and BNP locked into clash in front of the United Nations Headquarters in New York yesterday immediately after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered her speech at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), report agencies.
Several hundred activists of AL and its front organisations in the USA thronged in front of the United Nations headquarters to welcome Sheikh Hasina’s speech in their pre-schedule programme.
After a while, the BNP activists gathered there to hold a protest rally.
Later, both sides began chanting slogans in favour and against their parties ensuing a scuffle between the AL activists and the BNP men.
They also threw water bottles to each others, creating an untoward situation.
The clash lasted for 10 minutes.
Later, the New York police appeared the scene and dispersed them.
AL’s USA unit President Dr Siddiqur Rahman and USA BNP leader Gias Ahmed remained present during the clash.
