AL-backed Wahab sweeps Magura-1 by-polls

Awami League-backed candidate Major General
(retd) ATM Abdul Wahab has swept the by-polls of Magura-1, with 80 thousands
more votes than his closest rival.
Wahab bagged 93,181 votes while his closest rival independent candidate Tapan Kumar Singha got only 12,790 votes. Quazi Tauhidul Alam of NPP bagged 902 votes, while AKM Mutasim Billah of BNF only managed to bag 709 votes.
Starting at 8 am, the polling continues till 4 pm nonstop. Voters applied their voting rights through 140 polling stations. A tight security net was
established in and around the constituency to keep the voting environment peaceful and festive.
Returning officer Md Mazibur Rahman thanked the members of law enforcing agencies for their help in this regard.
Magura-1 constituency fell vacant following the death of Prof Sirajul Akbar on March 9. Akbar was also the chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
