The Awami League-backed Blue Panel has won an overwhelming victory to the election of the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) by snatching 14 out of 15 posts, including president and general secretary.
Professor ASM Maksud Kamal of the Department of Disaster Science and Management was re-elected president of the association in the polls held on Monday.
Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam of the Department of Banking and Insurance was elected general secretary. He was a vice-president in the previous committee.
The White Panel teachers backed by the BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami won only one member post in the executive committee.
The members of the association cast their ballots from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Dhaka University Club.
Election Commissioner Prof Tofail Ahmed Chowdhury announced the results in the afternoon.
According to him, 1,502 or around 74 percent of 2,010 members of the association cast their votes.
Computer Science & Engineering Department Professor Hasanuzzaman was elected a lone executive committee member in the polls from the White Panel.
The other office bearers are: Vice-President Prof Imdadul Huq, Treasurer Prof Momotajuddin Ahmed, Joint-Secretary Prof Tazin Aziz Chowdhury and Members Professor Chandranath Poddar, Prof Zeenat Huda, Prof Muhammad Samad, Prof Aftab Ali Seikh, Prof Ziaur Rahman, Prof Nizamul Huq Bhuiyan, Prof Sadeka Halim, Prof Sabita Rizwana Rahman and Prof Soumitra Sekhar.
