An Awami League activist has been held with gun near the party’s central office ahead of a programme of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Detainee MA Mannan is Awami League’s Ward 49 president under Jatrabari area. He was held while passing through the checkpoint on Friday afternoon.
“Mannan was carrying a firearm licensed under his name,” Shiblee Noman, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Motijheel division, told media.
However, the programme, a central meeting of the Awami League, was yet to start when he was held and the premier was not at scene at the time.
He was carrying one pistol and eight rounds of bullets. According to the police official, it was yet to be decided whether a case would be filed against him.
